Overview
The article "Chrysler recalls 2011-2014 Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango over brake defect" was published in The Toronto Star on April 2nd, 2014 by The Associated Press. The company which is directly involved with this crisis is one of the world’s largest automotive enterprises called Chrysler. This article is primarily focused on Chrysler’s recent recall on nearly 870,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models, manufactured from 2011 to 2014, due to a potential brake deficiency. Additionally, the recall is occurring in many different countries including Canada, Mexico, England and the United States. The cause behind the brake deficiency is the result of the brake booster’s potential exposure to water. If the water is to freeze, than the boosters will not help aid in the braking process as they should. Overall, in order to protect the brake boosters, Chrysler is currently installing a protective shield or even replacing the boosters which aren’t working correctly for free. Additionally, Chrysler has also improved their brake booster’s design, in order to make it more corrosion resistant.

Business Strand
Chrysler is undoubtedly an international business as it exports its products to many countries around the world. Nevertheless, Chrysler’s recent recall on thousands of its vehicles is precisely related to the business, trade and the economy strand of international business. This is due to the fact that Chrysler has to improve their quality control sector. The quality control sector of a business makes sure that the quality of the product which is exported and manufactured is up to the company’s standards and regulations. Since Chrysler did not accurately check that the brake boosters can potentially corrode when exposed to water, it had to spend thousands of dollars in repairs. It becomes evident that Chrysler has to improve their quality control sector in order to reduce product errors and in order to stay as a healthy competitor in the vehicle industry. All in all, this proves that with international business and exporting of products, it is essential that every product is at the quality and expectations of that company in order for them to maintain their brand image.

Opinion
In my opinion, I believe that Chrysler has built a good reputation in the countries which it has expanded in, such as Canada, by providing customers with high-end vehicles and as well as jobs. However, Chrysler’s recent recall has loyal customer’s questioning whether Chrysler is a trustworthy brand or not. If loyalty is lost than Chrysler does not only lose sales in regards to the costly repairs but also due to the customer’s unwillingness purchase their product. Overall, I believe that the quality and control sector of a business is fairly important because without the quality the customer expects, there will be no sales. Therefore, although Chrysler has a good reputation as an international business, this recall can potentially harm their image and as well as future profit.
